There were two major turning points in my life which pointed me on the road to alternative health options. The first was having a food allergy test and meeting with a naturopath at the Hale Clinic, the second one was discovering natural juices and smoothies and replacing at least one meal a day with one. Juicing is amazing and has so many benefits (more on that later), but if you are like me and can’t be bothered to clean the juicer every day, then smoothies can be just as effective and much easier to make. I use my good old Nutribullet to make a smoothie every morning, if I’m having a bad day I have a smoothie for lunch or dinner too. It is so beneficial to give your digestive system a rest. I use so many different recipes and it is good to have a variety and not the same one every day. I thought it may be useful to share some of the ingredients I use, you can mix and match and add in as many or as little as your heart desires….you can also add in your own ingredients, these are just my favourites………
Half an avocado
Handful of raspberries (frozen or fresh)
Handful of blueberries (frozen or fresh)
Melon
Banana
Handful of almonds or walnuts (if you can soak them in water the night before they taste even better)
Quarter of peeled cucumber
Handful of frozen or fresh spinach
Handful of frozen or fresh kale
Tablespoon of raw coconut oil
Half teaspoon cacao powder
Half teaspoon turmeric powder
Half teaspoon cinnamon powder
Half teaspoon fresh ginger powder
Tablespoon of chia or linseeds
Teaspoon of nut butter (cashew or almond)
Teaspoon of Maca powder
Teaspoon of Collagen powder
Teaspoon of Baobab powder
Teaspoon of Ribose powder (more on that later, its great for chronic fatigue)
Teaspoon of Hemp protein powder (or any protein which you prefer)
Scoop of Juice Plus powder choc or vanilla flavour (more on that later, great for aiding weight loss and for anyone who doesn’t eat enough fruit/veg)
Blitz ingredients with dairy free milk such as Hemp, Coconut, Oat, Nut
Try and have at least one ingredient from each list above and if you can have more then even better. My morning smoothie today was; banana, blueberries, spinach, avocado, coconut oil, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, hemp protein powder and coconut milk.
This afternoon I had one with Juice Plus choc powder, cacao powder, banana, walnuts and hemp milk. Give it a go and let me know what you think. They taste delicious and keep you full I promise 😁xx
